Long Exposure and High Tide at Dripstone, Darwin NT.

It was well and truly dark by this stage but I stayed put for one last exposure. This was taken on the landing of the stairs that you use to get down to the beach, with the sun gone I didn’t have to contend with people walking up and down the stairs and shaking the camera!

Dark, Stormy Sunset At Dripstone Cliffs – Darwin NT

Great clouds on the horizon last night, it was really dark at this stage but I wandered a little further away from the car to find these pools of water on the beach. Love their pattern! Dripstone Cliffs, Darwin NT.

Nightcliff Beach Outflow

I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately, the rest of life is going well but I haven’t been in the mood for photography. Finally back into it tonight printing off some images and editing this one from the start of February.

Stunning Sunset At Nightcliff, Darwin

When you get stunning colours for a Top End sunset it can last for only a few short minutes. You need to be in the right place, at the right time and a little lucky to catch it! I was set up in this spot all ready and still only got off a few frames before the light disappearred. That’s all you need though.

This image is available as a limited edition print or canvas, please contact me for pricing.

Waterfalls

Another shot from Nightcliff, this time the high tide and swell sends a lot of water up onto the rocks. Perfectly timed shots capture the water falling off the rocks and back into the ocean like a dozen tiny, temporary waterfalls.

Australia Day At Nightcliff

I was expecting large crowds at Nightcliff for Australia day, it’s pretty busy on a normal weekend let alone a public holiday! After about 30 minutes walking around out there I realised why there wasn’t much of a crowd, even with an overcast sky the humidity was very very high and the clouds were keeping the heat in! I’ve never had problems with my lenses fogging before but for this shoot I was wiping them down every 5 minutes.

I persisted because the tide was very high and was crashing into rocks that don’t usually see water so I could get some unique compositions. I shot this particular spot a number of times to get it in different light. I took about 200 frames to see how the water changed each time, it was tough to pick which one to use but this one stood out because of the way the sunset is reflected in the wet sand for just a moment as the water moves back out. I also like the curve of the water at the bottom right corner of the image as well, it frames it really nicely!

Sunset Over Darwin Harbour From East Point

It’s been hot and we haven’t had any rain to help temper the humidity of the wet season┬áso by the time I got to this location I was soaked in sweat! Before I arrived at this location I had been in an area shielded from the breeze but as soon as I stepped out of the car here I was met by the cool breeze coming off the water and the promise of a beautiful sunset. This part of East Point can be difficult to photograph, it’s a great place to watch the sunset but it can be difficult to find foreground-background compositions that I like to use. Luckily, I have been here before so I used some tried and true compositions as well as experimenting with some new ideas as the light faded away for the day.

East Point Cliffs Glowing At Sunset

Took my first trip out for 2016 last night and the sunset did not disappoint. Unfortunately, I was in the wrong place! I was hoping to get some good shots of a group of trees that become submerged at high tide (I might post these images later) but at the sun dipped below the horizon I could see a band of cloud that I knew was going the light up so I scrambled back to the car to get to a different location. I was right but this particular sunset was very difficult to shoot because the clouds with the nice pink colour were up very high so it was hard to get foreground features composed with it.

Later, all that was left was a faint flow on the horizon and this painted the cliffs at East Point in a very warm light which you can see here.
