Cottesloe Beach Golden Sunset

My wife graduated from her second university last week and because she has been studying externally this meant a trip down to Perth for the graduation! I’ve never been to Perth before but with a hectic schedule I only had limited time to take the camera out. I’ve seen plenty of images of Cottesloe Beach before and I didn’t really want to create another cliched image so I stayed on the beach for this image, nice and close to the surf club.

Nightcliff Beach Outflow

I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately, the rest of life is going well but I haven’t been in the mood for photography. Finally back into it tonight printing off some images and editing this one from the start of February.

High Tide At East Point

When the tide comes in the trees along the shore at East Point stand in the water for a few hours, cooling their feet off!

Tree Overhanging Yellow River – Kakadu National Park

I booked a sunset cruise on the Yellow River as part of my trip to Kakadu. The good thing about being in the park on a weekday during the off-season? You get the boat to yourself! It also turned out that the tour guide is also a photographer so he was more than happy to move into places that got the best shot. Two hours just flew by, we had some interesting light, great scenery and diverse animals. Here is a shot I really like of the way that the trees interact with the water, there was so much to shoot – there will be more to come!

Patterns In The Sand

I got a pretty good response from my last image on social media so I’ll post a shot taken with the same concept in mind but at a totally different angle! Here is one of the more repetitive patterns along Casurina Beach in Darwin.

Sands of Casurina

Casurina beach is a vast expanse of sand when the tide is out, a lot of water flows out of the beach so there a little rivers that criss-cross the sand. In between there is an expanse of smooth sand which has a very interesting pattern to it. I took a number of shots to try and capture the patterns within the vast expanse of the beach.

Afternoon Glow on The Cliff

I really love the way the cliffs here glow in the last minutes of the day. It took a bit of physical risk to get this shot, I very carefully crept out out on the jagged sharp rocks – right up to the waters edge (croc territory) so that I could look back towards the cliff. The tide was coming in so I could only get a few shots in before the water surrounded me and I was getting my feet wet! Getting back to the beach was even more work now that the rocks were slippery!

Creamy Sunset Over The Water

Been playing around with some images to get smoother tones and details…

Orange Sunset At Darwin Beach

Clear, cloudless days mean boring sunsets, right? In the NT you can get these but you can also get really vivid displays of orange, yellow and red after the sun has dipped below the horizon. I used some of the large boulders on Vestey’s Beach to frame the action of the water against the rocks.

Sunset at Fannie Bay Beach

Cloudless days make for boring sunsets right? Not always! The trick is to have a clear view of the horizon and to be patient. The sun was long gone and it was getting quite dark when the sky lit up like this and it was only when the red appeared in the sky that I could make a composition with the magenta coloured rocks work.
